Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has pledged full support towards the endeavours of the former Barcelona football club players in Uganda of developing the beautiful game starting with the grass root structures.
Representing the football body at the launch of a charity match between the Barcelona legends and a select Uganda Cranes team at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel Lake Hall, the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo said FUFA is 110% behind the legends’ project of starting a football academy in Uganda.
Dutch born former Barcelona midfielder, Edgar Davids attended the press conference.
“It is an enormous opportunity. We as a federation are looking for long term results of football development. We are committed to the cause of supporting the football academy. We shall provide a team of stars to play with the Barcelona legends because we are 110 % behind the president.”
Edgar Davids said he is excited to have visited Uganda and looks forward the challenge the Cranes stars will present on the day of the charity match (5th December 2015).
“I am happy to be here. I am aware Uganda has quite talented players. It will be a challenge to play with the Ugandan Stars. I believe our activities will help to uplift the standard of the game in the country and a general rise in the FIFA Rankings.”
FUFA will join several other partners to make the general project a success.
The Government of Uganda (through the president’s office), Unicef, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Nile Breweries Limited, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Cranes Bank among others.
FUFA is in full support of all the grass-root programmes particularly the national FUFA Juniors League, FUFA national schools of Excellence programme and all activities related to football development in soccer schools and academies.
