Fuelex boss arrested at Entebbe while fleeing out of Uganda

Mr. John Imaniraguha was grabbed at Entebbe Airport while trying to leave the country.

Imaniraguha has been a wanted man by URA (Uganda Revenue Authority) since 2008.

Allegations that he was smuggling fuel and dumping it in Kampala.

URA has apparently had him on the list of the most wanted people for the last 8 years.

When he was arrested at Entebbe airport, he had his family there and supposedly he had been arrested two days prior and held at Jinja Road Police Station but vanished.

The Assistant Commissioner for Public and Corporate Affairs for URA (Ms Sarah Banage) said that Imaniraguha had contributed to distorting the fuel market prices by his illegal activity and selling the fuel at a lower price.

According to Banage, URA and CID have enough information to bring Imaniraguha to book.

Imaniraguha also faces another charge in the anti-corruption court in Kampala and this one was issued two weeks ago.

Nalukolongo Fuelex Station was closed after information leaked out that the station had received cheap fuel from a truck trailer which had been cleared by URA at the Busia border and was destined to DRC meaning that it was exempt from taxation.  The total amount was 50,000 litres worth Shs42 million.
