Four arrested over stolen guns

Four people have been arrested in connection to stolen guns in Amuru district.

Police in Aswa Region on Monday recovered two of its missing guns which were stolen late last month from Elegu Police Post hidden in a swamp in Amuru district.

The AK47 rifles each loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition were stolen on the night of April 25, this year from a house of a police officer who had gone for a night out.

This brings the number of guns recovered from Acholi sub region alone in the less than two months to six amid increase cases of gun violence in the former war ravaged sub region.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Regional Police spokesperson said that the guns were suspected to have been stolen by a group of gangs from one of their police officers identified as Mike Otong.

Okema said that they are carrying on further investigations.
