Former Oyam north parliamentary contestant Willy Omodo Omodo was Thursday evening remanded to Lira Central Government Prison after he was arrested for criminal trespass, disobeying court orders and inciting violence.
Omodo Omodo, a former youth leader who defected from former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s camp, was reportedly arrested on Thursday by police along Maruzi road in Lira town in Lira district.
He was accompanying Engineer Odongo Okune, the director of Uganda Road Fund to commission a youth office belonging to Bodaboda Motorcycle Association.
According to Uganda Radio Network, a local news agency police alleges that Omodo Omodo defied a directive issued by Lira Grade I Magistrate Court last year, banning meetings at Lango Cultural Foundation, the headquarters of the culturalg institution.
As the spokesperson of Lango Cultural Institution, Omodo Omodo is said to have conducted a meeting which he also used to incite attendants against some officials of the cultural institution.
He was picked up and rushed to court shortly after recording a statement at Lira Central Police Station.
He denied the charges before Lira Grade I Magistrate Hillary Kiwanuka.
Omodo Omodo, who is also the clan head of Pedi Wibye Acel, argued that he has right as a member of the council of clan heads to conduct meetings concerning the cultural institution and that his act should not be considered illegal.
His attempts to apply for bail were also rejected and he was remanded to Lira Central Government Prison until today afternoon when his case comes up for hearing.
Omodo Omodo, a renowned pioneer of NRM poor youth is not new to controversy.
Omodo Omodo who previously served as the National Resistance Movement-NRM party`s Youth Vice Chairman for Northern Uganda, was among the first figures to declare support for the former Premier Amama Mbabazi’s presidential bid.
He later crossed back to the NRM party after a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni.
