More than 150 people have been displaced and scores injured after fighting broke out between two clans over land in Aromo Sub-county in Lira District.
The violence was sparked when youth from the Arak Onyang clan reportedly attacked and assaulted Atek Odyek Owidi clan member.
In retaliation, the Atek Odyek Owidi youth apparently went on rampage and burnt to ashes more than 15 huts belonging to Arak Onyang clan. Atek Odyek Owidi thought their son, Tom Olwa, who was beaten to coma, had actually died only to “resurrect” from the “dead” hours later.
Lira RDC Emmanuel Mwaka Lutukumoi, said it was worse than the atrocities perpetrated by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in northern Uganda.
The two clans have been warring since 2014 over the said land left behind by their grandfather.
The deceased reportedly divided the land to his sons before he died.
The eldest son Olwa then surrendered a plot to the Arak Onyang but unfortunately, the “young boys” from that clan crossed the boundary where the clan leaders had demarcated.
