FDC’s Kaija freed from SIU Kireka jail

Human Rights Lawyer, Ladislaus Rwakafuzi has Wednesday secured the release of Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Secretary General Harold Kaija.

Kaija has been in police cells ever since he along with other top officials were declared kidnapped.

FDC party spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said the others; Zeridah Kakayi, the FDC vice chairperson for Youth and Boniface Okori, a guard at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi are still missing.

Kaija was first arrested on May 9 while trying to address a press conference at FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi.

He was going to announce a programme for Kizza Besigye’s swearing in ceremony.

Police chief Kale Kayihura later told press that Kaija would be charged and produced in court for trial.

He was held at Special Investigations Unit [SIU] Kireka for a week.

“Thanks to Mr Ladislaus Rwakafuzi, a human rights lawyer for working tirelessly to make sure that Kaija gets out of illegal detention,” FDC said in a tweet.
