Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe is missing.
According to Kizza Besigye’s team, Ingrid was “kidnapped by Kale Kayihura police and are holding her in undisclosed location”.
Turinawe is also the Internal Affairs Minister in the “People’s government” presided over by President Kizza Besigye.
The team says Turinawe was way-laid, grabbed from her vehicle by plain clothed “hooligans and dumped into a van bearing police registration number plates and driven away to undisclosed location”.
Turinawe was allegedly kidnapped as she drove towards the official residence of Besigye in Kasangati where daily strategic meetings are conducted on how to implement people’s programs as contained in the FDC manifesto.
“The arrest of Turinawe, whose Ministry is in charge of planning strategic programs is an attempt by the Kale Kayihura force to influence the NRM’s plans to disable the effective operations of people’s government and impose themselves onto the premises of President Kizza Besigye,” Besigye’s team said a statement.
They said efforts were underway to locate Turinawe and ensure she is freed.
Her disappearance comes hours after Makerere LCV councillor Doreen Nyanjura was arrested and reportedly tortured by police.
She was later freed last night after Makerere university students camped at Kawempe police station.
