The Leader of opposition in Parliament has warned government not to push opposition politicians into a corner where they may be forced to retaliate.
Hon Wafula Oguttu was addressing plenary on the brutal arrest and near murder of FDC politicians who were escorting Kizza Besigye to Rukungiri over the weekend.
“We are going to press charges on the Police soon, we should have a select committee to investigate the conduct of Police,” he told the house.
“Ever since IGP took over office there have been more than 100 murders by police and they haven’t been charged or conclusively tried,” Oguttu said.
According to Oguttu, IGP Kale Kayihura gave the orders that were executed by Maxwell Ogwal the RPC of Masaka.
In their confused approach, police caused an accident in Lwengo town council that saw FDC politicians’ cars crashed.
“The incident would have marked one of the darkest days in your tenure as Speaker, many members would be lying in state,” Oguttu told Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, who was presiding.
On the way, the Police placed a metallic object on the road after Oguttu had passed and Hon. Amuriat’s car rammed into it.
He said Hon Semujju Nganda’s car veered off the road and even came into contact with a police car.
The LOP has termed the incident as an attempt on the life of the FDC Presidential aspirant.
Several opposition leaders including FDC presidential flag and Members were arrested and their planned public meeting in Rukungiri district blocked.
Oguttu said the Police and other armed forces should stop hiding behind the Public Order Management Act to brutally block opposition activities.
Wafula said the Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) is a legally recognized party and should operate openly and freely.
