The opposition Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] has told its Members of Parliament who support former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, to leave the party.
This came after revelations that some members were backing Mbabazi against their own presidential flag bearer during the Democratic Alliance [TDA] selection of a joint candidate.
Speaking on capital gang on Saturday, Uganda Federal Alliance president, Beti Kamya, said the ground had changed in Besigye’s disfavour pointing out that even 12 FDC members had left him for Mbabazi.
She named Mathias Mpuuga [Masaka] and Abdul Katuntu [Bugweri], saying they had already defected to JPAM camp.
Some of the others who are known include; Francis Epetait [Ngora], Kassiano Wadri [Terego] and Beatrice Atim Anywar [Kitgum Woman].
FDC spokesperson, Ssemujju Nganda, told NTV these members will be ejected if the allegations against them are substantiated.
“You can’t be FDC and support another party or a candidate of another party,” Nganda pointed out.
“FDC is not a prison. You are there [in the party] on conviction. When you leave, you leave.”
Nganda once more expressed his disappointment in Democratic Party president, Norbert Mao, for falsely declaring Mbabazi the TDA joint candidate.
FDC members deny Mbabazi links
Yesterday, Beatrice Anywar who accused Besigye of being selfish in TDA, denied allegations that she was pro-Amama.
She told KFM radio that Besigye had lost to Amama in the joint flag bearer race and should deal with it.
Likewise, the FDC vice president for eastern Uganda, Alice Alaso, told The Observer, she has not been in any form of contact with Mbabazi for more than a year.
“I have never talked to Mbabazi since he fell out with Museveni; so, how can you be with somebody you have never talked to?” said the Serere Woman MP.
“Everybody knows my support in the party for candidate Muntu and I am sticking with Muntu wherever he goes,” she said.
She added: “I can’t leave Muntu alone hanging there. I will support Muntu for as long as he needs my support; so, how can I begin running and leaving Muntu?”
Why abandon Besigye
Before the TDA impasse, FDC was already split into two camps; those supporting Besigye against those Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, as arising from the party presidential flag bearer race.
There are accusations that Budadiri West MP and FDC Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi, is plotting against pro-Muntu MPs including; Alaso, Angelinne Osegge [Soroti], Ekwau Ibi Florence [ Kaberamaido], Stephen Ochola [Serere county] and Ngora’s Epetait.
In the same zeal, Anywar told The Observer Besigye had failed them by using Mafabi to plot against Muntu.
“If you gave your team member to shoot the penalty three times [Besigye stood against Museveni 3 times] and he is shooting out, you keep on trying among your team members. It doesn’t make him less of a member. So for us, some of us, we opted for Muntu because we expected him to get another trial to shoot the penalty,” Anywar told the newspaper.
