Police yesterday members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) for cleaning Twekembe Market in Kawempe, a Kampala outskirt.
Some of the arrested included; vice chairman for the FDC Youth League in the Buganda region, Rajab Kaaya Sema and chairperson Kyadondo North Constituency, Muwaga Sulaiman.
According to Muwanga, FDC members were doing community work when suddenly police stormed the scene armed with guns and rounded them up.
He said they were only offering a community service to business people and nothing more.
Police claims they were arrested for causing disorder in the market by putting on FDC Party T-shirts which it (police) did not want them to put on.
Police also said it was illegal because they had not sought clearance.
There was a bit of commotion as police forced the group to remove the T-shirts before laoding them onto a truck and driving off.
Muwanga condemned the police action saying they were causing confusion in the country instead of creating order.
This comes a day after Kawempe Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa’s ambulance was reportedly rammed by an army vehicle at Kanyanya.
Two people were injured and admitted to nearby health centres as the said vehicle sped away.
