Media analyst Kwezi Tabaro says he is not surprised that Forum for Democratic Change reneged on an earlier position not to name Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
“FDC reneged on an earlier decision by naming Leader of Opposition (LoP) but this is not the first time. It’s a party of contradictions,” Tabaro said while appearing on NBS television.
He said in politics, one is either on the table or the menu.
“Winnie Kiiza, the new Leader of Opposition (LoP), is now on the table.”
He, however, noted that by naming a leader of opposition in Parliament, FDC has conceded to the NRM.
On Thursday, a group of FDC members from the Northern region also protested the appointment of Kiiza.
Led by the party Secretary for Regional and International Affairs, Innocent Ayo, the group said it was disappointed in party president Mugisha Muntu for choosing someone from Western region ignoring other regions.
But Muntu denied the accusations saying all regions were represented in parliament.
In the 8th Parliament, Agago County Member of Parliament, Prof. Morris Ogenga Latigo served as the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
The 9th parliament was served by Hon Wafula Oguttu, then Bukhooli Central MP in Butaleja district.
Kizza, the new LoP, has promised to use her office to champion the fight for Kizza Besigye’s release from Luzira prison.
Kiiza also promised to ensure better service delivery during her reign.
