FDC declines to name leader of opposition

Leading Opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has declined to name a new Leader of Opposition in parliament to replace Mr Wafula Oguttu.

According to the FDC party president, General Mugisha Muntu, he cannot make a new leader of opposition in parliament because they won the highly contested February 18 presidential elections.

“We won the elections and therefore, we are nolonger the opposition,” said Gen Muntu.

The Electoral Commission Chairman Badru Kiggundu declared president Yoweri Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the New president with more than 60 per cent of the votes counted against FED’s Pizza Besigye who got 35 percent.

However, FDC has on several occassions dismissed the elections results claiming Dr Besigye won the elections with 52 percent of the votes counted.

To this end, they have consistently called for an independent audit into the eletions. Dr Besigye’s attempt to adore in as president also saw him arrested and charged with treason before being remanded to Luzira Prison.
