The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has paid tribute to the late Hon. Joshua Wanume Kibedi and praised him for standing up to fight for what was right.
The Speaker made these remarks at All Saints Cathedral, Nakesero during a funeral service for the late Kibedi who died on Monday, 13th June 2016 in the United Kingdom after a long illness.
Kadaga said the late Kibedi was an exemplary and courageous man who stood out against all odds for what was right.
“It took a lot of courage for someone below 30 years to resign from a position of minister at that time and denounce the dictatorship of Idi Amin,” Kadaga said.
She said that as a representative of Uganda at the United Nations, Kibedi did a great job to market and promote Uganda.
“It is unfortunate that many did not get a chance to know who he was because of the turbulent times that forced him out of Uganda,” Kadaga said.
She saluted him for the good work he had done. The late Joshua Wanume Kibedi, a British trained lawyer, served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1971 to 1973 during Idi Amin’s reign. He then served as the Ambassador of Uganda to the United Nations in 1986 and later as the Chairman of the Immigration and Citizenship Control Board in 2012.
The late Kibedi will be laid to rest at his home in Nabitende village in Iganga district on Saturday, 2nd July 2016.
