A UPDF soldier fighting under the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] is reported killed.
Benson Twesigye is also a former bodyguard to former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.
Twesigye was among the UPDF bodyguards who were withdrawn from Mbabazi’s residence in Kololo after he was sacked as premier in 2014.
He had served Mbabazi in the same capacity for over 10 years.
In an operation led by Joint Chief of Staff Brig Leopold Kyanda, Twesigye and colleagues were disarmed and arrested at Amama’s home.
He was later taken to South Sudan, the Central African Republic and finally to Somalia early this year.
News from Somalia indicate that Twesigye was allegedly run over by an Amisom truck at a base camp in the capital Mogadishu.
His body arrives tonight at Entebbe international airport.
He is expected to be buried on Wednesday his home district Kanungu.
Army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda, did not receive or return our calls when contacted on the matter.
