Former Bishop Stuart University Guild President, Mugabe Samson, has all his eyes set on a top office in Ibanda district, running on the ruling NRM party ticket.
When this website contacted him over the matter, all he could say was: “I am pushing on. It’s like every day I discover a new idea that can contribute to the future of my people”.
At the start of August, Mugabe picked nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Mbarara town.
He was officially nominated yesterday September 1, 2015 nomination at the same offices.
“Please end ever to join me as I get nominated,” he reminded his supporters.
Mugabe is standing for Local Council [LC5] chairperson Ibanda district.
With his vote catchword “Forward ever backward never”, Mugabe has been traversing the district engaging in several activities as he prepares to contest for the new office.
The last time we spotted him in pro-people activities, was at Ishongororo playgrounds during RUFO football competitions where he was the chief guest.
Donning a suit and a yellow tie [he is NRM through and through], Mugabe was cheering animatedly as the games heated up.
For months now, he has been on the road, visiting Ibanda, Mbarara then Kampala as he meets potential voters.
He spends most of the weekends consulting “Ibandans” in Kampala.
His consultative meetings are usually held at Centenary Park along Jinja road in Kampala city.
Other days are spent either in Mbarara, Ibanda and Ishongororo [his home town] canvassing for votes.
Who is Mugabe?
Thanks to his organisation and leadership skills, Mugabe run for Guild President at Bishop Stuart University and won successfully leading for the 2013/2014 tenure.
He was then an undergraduate student, studying a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies.
Mugabe attended Kakinga primary school, then went to Ishongororo high school and Bigyera secondary school for ordinary level.
He completed advanced level from Kagongo parents’ School and later joined Bishop Stuart University for a degree in development studies.
Between high school and university, Mugabe attended a cadre course and joined the Uganda police force.
He was based at Entebbe barracks at first and later transferred to Mbarara police station where he was given a communications office.
Despite tiresome police work, he has been an active participant and an organizer for events and activities aimed at uplifting the lives of fellow Ugandans.
He is famed for his vote gathering and oratory skills when he served as a campaign manager for Kyoma Xavier, the current Member of Parliament for Ibanda North constituency.
While at university, Mugabe created a platform ‘Creative Youth Group’ which brought positive changes to the student community.
Last year, he was among the many university guild presidents chasing the presidency of Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA).
He is the chairman western NRM forum, advisor to UNSA, a former head prefect at Bigyera Senior Secondary School and former speaker at Inshongororo High School.
Mugabe is married to Caroline Nabaasa who he met while at Bigyera SS and have been inseparable ever since.
The couple is blessed with three children [two girls and one boy] and lives in Mbarara town.
