The Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has called upon Ugandans and the whole African Continent to fully embrace science and technology to solve society problems and improve lives of our people.
Speaking during the official opening of the 11th International Conference of the African Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE) at Hotel Africana, also highlighted the need the need to save our continent the hostile climatic change and environmental degradation.
“Recently many people died in Tanzania and Uganda due to the earthquake that also spoiled property worth Millions of money. It’s now that we should get the technology that can predict such hostile circumstances before they happen so that our people don’t continue dying.” Said Hon. Rugunda.
Rt.Hon. Rugunda also assured Ugandan how the government has already set up the National Emergency and Creation Center that will be responsible for fighting such climate changes.
“We don’t want to see people die in Bududa due to landslides, the National Emergency and creation Center and the National Remote Sensing Center that is to be established with support of our agencies will be there keep us informed so that we can transform Uganda to the middle income status by the year 2020.” Said Rugunda.
He also lauded the Rwanda government for spearheading the use of technology through the introduction of the medical initiative of transporting blood using drones which he said Uganda should borrow a leaf.
However in this very move, the prime minister also said that impressing technology not only can save Ugandans from the hostile climate changes and environmental degradation, but it will create jobs, businesses and employment opportunities for the youth.
