The electoral commission has directed the media regulatory body to switch off any media station that announces results not officially dispatched by them.
The directive was made Friday during a press conference at EC headquarters.
EC boss Badru Kiggundu said he had learnt through media reports that some candidates have put up their own tally centres.
“However no one should use these tally centres to announce final results,” Kiggundu said.
He maintained it is the role of the EC alone to release results.
“Should any candidate violate this, the law will take its course.”
Kiggundu directed Uganda Communications Commission to close down media houses that are used to announce unauthorised results.
Kiggundu also said there were effigies along Jinja road directing the owners to remove them before police intervenes.
EC banned effigies in 2011.
