The electoral commission has set new dates for the nomination of candidates for Lord Mayor, Kampala Capital City Authority.
This comes on the same day Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, was arrested trying to lead a procession to EC offices along Jinja road.
Lukwago has been protesting the delay of the nominations where EC never officially wrote to him.
According to Chairman Badru Kiggundu, the Electoral Commission postponed the nomination of candidates for the election of Lord Mayor, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), pending the availing of Regulations governing the electoral exercise, by the Minister for Kampala Capital City, as required under Section 82 of the KCCA Act, 2010.
He said in a statement that following a consultative meeting by the Minister for Kampala with the Electoral Commission, held today, Monday, 16th November 2015, on the above matter, the Electoral Commission, announces resumption of the electoral process for Lord Mayor, Kampala Capital City Authority, under Section 9 of the KCCA Act and The Local Government Act, Cap 243 (as amended).
“The nomination of candidates for Lord Mayor will therefore, be conducted from 18th – 20th November 2015, at the Office of the Returning Officer, Kampala, Minister’s Village, Plot 9 Muwafu Road, Ntinda, Kampala, starting at 9:00am until 5:00pm.”
