The Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has finally released a road map for 2016 general elections.
Joseph Diribonwa, the acting chairperson EC said they are currently making final touches to ensure everything goes according to plan.
According to the road map, the general update of voters’ registers will run from April 7-9, 2015 while the display of national voters’ registers at the respective polling stations across the country will run from June 2-22, 2015.
The nomination of candidates for village youth and people with disabilities and the elderly persons will run from June 5-16, 2015; nomination of candidates for presidential elections will be on October 5-6, 2015; nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections will be on November 9-10 while nominations of candidates for local government council elections will get underway from October 19-23, 2015.
Campaigns for general elections will take place between October 12, 2015 and February 15, 2016.
The polling period for general elections is between February 12, and March 12, 2016.
Diribonwa said the exact polling date will be announced in due course.
He also said those who registered for national identity cards and were successfully verified as Ugandan citizens, will not register again.
He pledged that EC would declare accurate results as tallied without fear or favor come 2016.
Uganda Electoral Commission’s projected budget for the next financial year is about Shs 255bn.
