The East African Community has extended its condolences to the government of Burundi upon the loss of a former spokesperson and minister.
Amb. Liberat Mfumukeko, the Secretary General East African Community and Ex-Oficio Member of Parliament East African Legislative Assembly, said he was saddened by the death of Hafsa Mossi Wednesday.

Mossi, an EALA MP was attacked by gunmen in Mutanga Nord neighbourhood this morning in the capital Bujumbura.
Mossi succumbs to gunshot wounds in the military hospital where she was rushed.
Government confirmed her assassination near her home.
“Saddened at the death of my friend and colleague, Hon Hafsa Mossi. @Jumuiya has lost a tireless advocate. RIP Dear Sister!,” EAC SG Mfumukeko tweeted on his official handle.
Louise Mushikiwabo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs & Cooperation, Rwanda, also said she was grieving the death of a dedicated politician.
“Grieving for my #Burundi-an friend, Hafsa Mosi, just assassinated in Bujumbura! A good woman, and dedicated politician. RIP sister!,” Louise tweeted.

Mossi is the legislator who last year visited Burundian refugees in Rwanda and cried.
Her assassination comes at a time talks on Burundi crisis are ongoing in Arusha, the capital of Tanzania.
Mossi who has a degree in journalism was the Minister for East African Community Affairs in the Government of Burundi from 2009 – 2011 (2 years).
She also served as the Minister of Communication, Information, Relations with Parliament and Spokesperson of the Government of Burundi from 2005 – 2007 (2 years).
