Dr Nyanzi: Mamdani sacrificing me for Amin expulsion of Asians

Locked out: Dr Stella Nyanzi

Makerere University lecturer Dr Stella Nyanzi claims Makerere Institute of Social Research [MISR] boss, Mahmood Mamdani, is doing what former President Idi Amin did to Asians many years ago.

Nyanzi was evicted from her office on Friday on the directives given by Mamdani who says she refused to teach on his PhD programme.

Nyanzi appealed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, who issued a letter of stay that she emailed to all MISR faculty, staff and students.

She also hand delivered a letter to Mamdani’s Personal Assistant.

“I was surprised to find an email this morning telling me that his eviction instructions still stand. This is the same man who gave a whole block of offices at MISR to his wife for her private film establishment after he abruptly terminated the short research courses that used to be conducted there,” she shot out.

She added: “Mahmood Mamdani is expelling me out of my office just like Idi Amin Dada expelled Asians out of Uganda. I refuse to be the sacrificial lamb to atone for Idi Amin’s evil. Power really gets to some men’s heads!”

On 4 August 1972, then President of Uganda, Idi Amin, ordered the expulsion of his country’s Asian minority, giving them 90 days to leave Uganda.

Amin said that he had a dream in which Allah told him to order the expulsion.

The ethnic cleansing of Indians in Uganda was conducted in a climate of Indophobia, in which the Ugandan government claimed that the Indians were hoarding wealth and goods to the detriment of indigenous Ugandans and “sabotaging” the Ugandan economy.

Nyanzi who accuses Mamdani of being corrupted by power, says the Indian at getting back at her for the crimes committed by Amin.

“After dropping my sons off for their skating classes, and my daughter for her swimming lessons at the pool, I headed to my office to catch up with my work. I was shocked to find a new huge hardened padlock on the access door leading to the corridor my office is in,” she wrote on social media Saturday afternoon.

“Mahmoooooooooood Mamdani is crumping my work mood! In all my six years at MISR, this particular door has never been locked. Machiavellian men like to show off the full charge of their erections by bull dozing people.”

She says although the DVC stayed Mamdani’s eviction procedures, the institute still locked her out.
