Patrick Don Bugingo, a member of the Democratic Party (DP) won the Makerere University Business School (Mubs) guild Presidency after polling a whooping margin of 1,000 votes.
In the final results announced by the Electoral Commission, Don Patrick Bugingo (DP) polled 2,707 votes followed by Victor Birungi, an independent candidate with 982 votes, Evelyn Aijuka of NRM with 334 votes and lastly, Mariam Nakiggude of FDC who got only 70 votes.
Last week, Mubs nullified its guild elections amid allegations of ballot stuffing; a student was caught trying to fix a bundle of pre-ticked ballot papers in favour of NRM’s Aijuka.
The Electoral Commission chairperson, Joel Lameck Gulere, told Daily Monitor that Aijuka and three others were spotted at Nasser Road trying to duplicate the ballot papers.
Students nearly lynched the accused but was saved by Mubs police officers who dispersed the mob with teargas.
When the election finally got underway, Bugingo beat rivals to emerge winner and was received with loud cheers.
Bugingo is a former St Mary College Kisubi (SMACK) Assistant Head Prefect and Head Prefect.
