High Court Judge Justice Masalu Musene has granted bail to former Central Police Station DPC Aaron Baguma Thursday morning.
Baguma was asked to pay Shs5m cash while his three sureties were also asked to pay Shs5m each non-cash.
Yesterday, State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya, had pleaded with the judge not to give Baguma bail arguing that one cannot apply for bail before the charges have been read to him.
“How can one who hasn’t subjected himself to a court seek for remedies before the same Court? His supplementary affidavits cannot even cure this irregularity.”
Muwaganya prayed that court strikes out the bail application as the applicant “hasn’t adduced any single exceptional circumstance to grant him bail.
“He [Baguma] claims he has acute ulcers which require special diet but hasn’t filed a single medical report.”
The State Attorney also referred to several instructions given by the DPP to present Baguma since November but were never adhered to by Baguma.
“Baguma has a history of defying lawful instructions. He is unlikely to honour any bail terms granted by this Honourable Court,” the State Attorney submitted.
While delivering his ruling this morning, Justice Musalu explained that Baguma has been granted bail because he has a responsibility to protect and keep law and order in Uganda.
However, Musene asked Baguma to always appear in the same court every after one month.
