President Yoweri Museveni has urged NRM members in western Uganda to remain united if the party is to achieve all its goals.
“Finally, it is important that we keep our party united,” he told members of the ruling party while addressing a rally at Boma grounds in Mbarara town on Tuesday.
He called upon those running as independents not to disorganize the NRM.
“The party is like the baby whom two mothers fought over in the Bible under King Solomon,” he said.
“If you love the party, you should be like the mother who offered that the other woman takes the baby rather than have it cut into two.”
Speaking at an earlier rally in Rubindi town, Museveni said he had heard that Rubindi NRM flag-bearers were fighting.
“Banyankole have a saying that “Siblings fight while warning each other not to fall in a pit”.”
He said Rubindi had demonstrated maturity in their politics.
“Fight your battles wisely. Don’t fight to harm one’s family or even society,” he urged.
“Also don’t fight to destroy your party,” he warned.
The president said when the members become tolerant, they save many things from being destroyed and benefit more.
“I thank the people of Kashari for the continued support.”
Speaking at a rally in Kashongi sub-county, Kashongi constituency in Kiruhura District on Monday, Museveni once again emphasised the need for unity.
He said NRM has taught everyone unity emphasising that it’s what has contributed to the peace in the country.
The president also tasked the Ibanda NRM district Chairman to ensure he reconciles all those that fell out due to the NRM primaries.
