Police in Kampala is holding two people over an alleged picture of a “dead President Yoweri Museveni”.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga told press in Kampala on Monday that Henry Mutyaba and Robert Darius Tweyambe are being held at Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Kireka.
He said the suspects have been circulating pictures on social media alleging the president is dead.
He said in the picture, Museveni’s body is seen wrapped in a white cloth as they do for dead people.
Tweyambe, the head of FDC election task force in Rukungiri, was arrested on Saturday and first detained at Ntungamo police station before being transferred to Kampala.
While police accuses him of cyber crimes, FDC officials say his arrest is part of the grand scheme to sabotage collection of 2016 election rigging evidence.
Tweyambe was Kizza Besigye’s chief campaigner and was reportedly collecting declaration forms from FDC polling agents in the district.
Police has also arrested FDC chief agent in Isingiro under similar circumstances.
Deo Bafaki, the FDC chief agent in Isingiro was also arrested on Monday and is being held at Mbarara police station.
Not long ago, police arrested former spy Charles Rwomushana over an alleged dead picture of Amama Mbabazi’s head of security, Christopher Aine.
Police has since been warning the public against misuse of social media.
