Heavy rains which started last night have devastated villages in Kabale district.
An eye witness, Simpson Mpirirwe, says roads are blocked at Mugandu and Katuna near Kyenkombe’s place.
“It’s even now raining, drivers and passengers are opening the roads themselves”.
He said in Katuna a house was washed away and 13 goats killed.
Mudslides were reported to have covered roads, destroyed gardens and submerged houses.
The other affected areas are; Nyakasharara, Burambira, Bugarama, Kitohwa and Katenga.
Dastun Muhereza, the LCIII Chairperson of Kaharo Sub County, says the rains destroyed Kitare, Nyakigugwe, Nkumbura, Kizinga, Karehe, Omukazi bridges and the major bridge that connects the sub county headquarters to the Kabale –Mbarara road.
The other affected roads include Nyakigugwe-Maziba road which connects the Sub Counties of Maziba and Kaharo.
Kabale Roads Inspector, Monday Alex, told Uganda Radio Network that an emergency meeting has been convened to forge a way forward so that the cut of areas can be accessed.
Wilfred Niwagaba, the area Member of Parliament, said that he is in touch with the leadership of Kabale District to assess the magnitude of the damage to enable them write a report to the office of the Prime Minister for possible intervention.
