A group of crime preventers has been award a Shs2bn tender to supply food to the Uganda police force.
Dr Ruhakana Rugunda revealed this during the Prime Minister’s question time in today’s plenary.
This came after Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume tasked Rugunda to explain the circumstances under which government is working with the crime preventers.
Rugunda started by explaining that crime preventers are “patriotic Ugandans who want to see the country safe”.
“Crime preventers have won a tender to supply food to Uganda Police Force,” Rugunda revealed.
According to Daily Monitor, the Inspector General of Government and the procurement authority are already investigating how the crime preventers’ group under the guise of the Police Exodus Savings and Credit Society secured that particular contract.
Uthman Segawa, the director of investigations at Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) told the newspaper investigations were underway after receiving several complaints.
Exodus Sacco is a savings and credit association owned by police officers which led by Blaise Kamugisha, the boss of National Crime Preventers Forum minted Shs400m in the election period.
While over 738 companies tendered for the supply of food to police but the contract was given to Exodus Sacco.
