Police in Budaka District have arrested the District crime preventers coordinator over allegations of extortion.
Police say Amir Kamba, was arrested on Tuesday January 12, 2016, after he allegedly extorted up to Shs700,000 from his fellow crime preventers.
Kamba promised his colleagues motorcycles that police had procured for them to help ease their movement and work.
Bukedi regional police spokesperson, Micheal Odongo, confirmed the arrest saying Kamba was picked following overwhelming complaints of extortion and abuse of his office against him.
“Upon hearing that the police had delivered 13 new motorcycles and were to be distributed to them, he started to demand from each sub-county coordinator Shs 70.000. This, however, forced a section of them to report the matter to police and swiftly the [police] overwhelmingly with supporting evidence arrested him over obtaining money by false pretence and forgery,” Mr Odongo said.
