The hearing of a case against Busiro South constituency MP elect Peter Ssematimba started Thursday after the two parties failing to settle out of court.
Democratic Party (DP)’s Stephen Ssekigozi petitioned High Court in Kampala claiming that Ssematimba who belongs to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Ssematimba’s does not have proper academic documents.
According to Ssekigozi, Ssematimba only holds a certificate issued by the East African Examinations Council in 1978, which cannot be equated to the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examinations, which is the minimum requirement for nomination in parliamentary elections according Electoral Commission.
Ssekigozi also accuses the Electoral Commission of conniving with Ssematimba to flout several sections of the Parliamentary Elections Act.
However, the e National Council for Higher Education’s Executive Director, John Asibo defended Ssematimba saying all the documents in question had been approved and certified.
