The High Court in Kampala has this morning started hearing the bail application filed by former DPC Kampala Central Police Station, Aaron Baguma.

Baguma who is on remand at Kigo prison, is being charged are in relation to the alleged killing of businesswoman Betty Katusabe at Pine car bond in Kampala on October 21, 2015.

During the hearing, prosecution requested that Baguma’s bail should be denied because he has a history of defying lawful instructions.

“Bail application was prematurely brought before this court. One cannot apply for bail before the charges have been read to him.”said the State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya.

He further added: “How can one who hasn’t subjected himself to a court seek for remedies before the same Court? His supplementary affidavits cannot even cure this irregularity.”

However Court declared to make a ruling on Baguma’s bail application tomorrow on Thursday 8th September.

It should be remembered that shortly after Baguma was remanded, relatives of Katusabe petitioned the Director of Public Prosecution asking him not to prosecute Baguma whom they said had been “very helpful in the case” and ensuring that their deceased daughter gets justice.

According to them, prosecuting Baguma would stall the case and therefore their daughter might not get the justice that she deserves.
