Court releases murder suspect in Club Guvnor killing

Ivan Kamyuka who allegedly murdered his friend at Club Guvnor last year was all smiles on Friday after the High Court in Kampala ordered for his release from Luzira Prison where he has been under custody since he was arrested.

Justice Wilson Masalu Musene granted Kamyuka a cash bail of Shs5 million and ordered to report to Mary Khainza Eleanor, the registrar High Court Registrar –Criminal division twice a month as one of the conditions for his released.

His other two friends who stood surety for him were each asked to pay Shs20 million not cash and threatened with arrest if Kamyuka ever jumps bail.

Clad in a dark blue suit, white shirt and a red-striped tie, Kamyuka left court with a big a smile in the company of a prison warder who was taking him for clearance and signing of release forms.

Prosecution alleges that Kamyuka on August 2, 2015, at Club Guvnor, First Street, Industrial Area, Central Division in Kampala District, with malice aforethought, unlawfully killed John Ahimbisibwe.

Ahimbisibwe alias Jonnie died following a confrontation with Kamyuka in the wee hours of the fateful day.

Ahimbisibwe reportedly sustained a cut from a broken glass in the neck, and bled to death.

Police were alerted and arrested Mr Kamyuka as the lead suspect.
