Court orders for arrest of Kabale priest over Shs61m debt

Court in Uganda has ordered for the arrest of the embattled Kabale diocesan priest, Fr Boniface Turyahikayo for failure to pay Shs61 million to his Bishop, Callist Ribaramira.

The Kabale High Court deputy registrar warrant of arrest instructing court bailiff Patrick Baingana to arrest Fr Turyahikayo and produce him in court on November 14 unless he pays the said money before that date.

Fr Turyahikayo is said to have defaulted on paying court costs on three separate applications.

The money was awarded to the bishop as costs after court dismissed a case where Fr Turyahikayo sued bishop Ribaramira accusing him of wrongful suspension.

Fr Turyahikayo had been suspended from serving as a bishop’s Secretary in 2012 for allegedly conducting himself contrary to the cardinal rules of the church.
