The Supreme Court has extended the pre-hearing of a petition filed by Go Forward candidate Amama Mbabazi to Monday next week.
Chief Justice Bart Katureebe who led the nine justices made the decision following a ruling that permitted Mbabazi to amend his petition.
Originally, Mbabazi filed a 16-page petition before amending it to make it 26 pages.
In the afternoon ruling, the court said the petition was filed this morning hence allowing it.
The president’s lawyers objected to the amended petition arguing that it had not yet been filed nor the fees paid.
Notable in the amended petition is an allegation that President Yoweri Museveni bribed hundreds of families with land in order to vote him.
The electoral commission, attorney general and Museveni’s lawyers have up to Sunday to file their rebuttals.
Katureebe gave the Mbabazi lawyers time to file their affidavits and do so by Wednesday.
The official hearing of the petition kicks off on Monday next week (March 14, 2016).
