Court convicts state prosecutor for soliciting a bribe


Court in Kampala has convicted a prosecutor for soliciting 400,000 shillings from a court client.

The Anti- Corruption court magistrate Susanne Okeny, convicted Edward Bamulutira for soliciting the said money to help secure bail for a suspect accused and detained on charges of criminal trespass.

According to evidence presented before the Kololo based court, between May 22 and 27, 2012 in Arua District while employed by the DPP as a state prosecutor,  Bamulutira solicited and received the said money from Moses Anguyo as an inducement to help set his brother free from prison.

Prosecution led by Daisy Acio asked court to give the convict a custodial sentence that

However, Bamulutira asked court to give him non-custodial sentence citing that he had learnt a lesson from this case and that he was ready to reform and advocate for a free corrupted country among the communities.
