High Court in Kabale has issued an interim order stopping the ruling NRM from presenting Dr James Nsaba Buturo, for nomination as flag bearer for Bufumbira County East MP seat.
The former Ethics and Integrity minister has a pending petition filed by Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, the incumbent MP for Bufumbira East, challenging Buturo’s election.
The acting Kabale High Court registrar, Agatonica Mbabazi Ahimbisibwe, delivered the ruling on Wednesday.
Kwizera irregularities that included voting rigging and intimidation of voters in the October primaries.
Buturo has already hinted at going independent.
Court blocks Sabiti who defeated Banyenzaki
Kabale High Court also on Tuesday issued an interim order blocking the nomination of Eng. Denis Sabiti, the NRM flag bearer for Rubanda West constituency parliamentary seat.
Sabiti beat six rivals including State Minister for Economic Monitoring Mr Henry Banyezaki in the November party primaries.
Banyenzaki rushed to court claiming the elections were rigged.
In Jinja, High Court has blocked the nomination of state Minister of Lands, Aidah Nantaba.
Nantaba, the Kayunga District Woman MP, was blocked over lack of academic qualifications following a petition by two voters; Bruhan Kasumba and Margret Nabasirye.
Minister Opendi loses petition
Sarah Acheng Opendi, the incumbent Tororo Woman Member of Parliament has lost a petition she filed in court to block the nomination of her rival.
Opendi contested in the NRM primaries for election as the Tororo Woman NRM MP candidate and lost to rival Jacinta Ayo.
According to URN, Judge Kawesa observed that Opendi filed her petition on November 25th after the Electoral Commission had already completed some of the processes for the nomination.
Buhweju Woman MP loses petition
Mbarara High Court has quashed the election petition of Oliver Koyechenga, the incumbent Buhweju Woman Member of Parliament challenging the NRM primary results.
Koyechenga petitioned the High court in October challenging the NRM primary results on grounds of massive malpractice.
According to URN, Koyechenga accused the Buhweju District NRM party registrar Valeriano Arinaitwe and her rival Alison Ayetoranire of ballot staffing, beating up her supporters, arresting her polling agents and altering the poll results from six sub counties.
Court delays ruling on Nabeta academic documents
High Court has delayed the ruling on Nathan Nabeta Igeme’s academic qualification to allow the National Council of Higher Education to verify all his academic transcripts.
Last month, Paul Mwiru, the incumbent Jinja East Member of parliament went to court to block Nabeta’s nomination over lack of academic qualifications.
