Convicted Kampala city lawyer, Bob Kasango has petitioned the Constitutional Court challenging the appointment of Mike Chibita as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Kasango claims the appointment of Justice Chibita compromises the independence of judiciary and separation of powers of state agencies.
According to the petition dated May 17, Kasango sued the Attorney General and DPP alleging that appointment of Chibita while holding the position of a judge is inconsistent with the constitution.
The development comes just days after Kasongo was convicted of theft was order to pay Sh3billion to the Toro queen mother Best Kemigisa.
Kasango was also ordered to pay a fine of Sh12 million or face jail for five years.
He paid the fine and was set free. The Sh3billion compnsation is to be paid within 30 days, failure of which will be recovered as a civil debt.
