Makerere University has cleared four students of the earlier blocked guild presidential race contestants.
They are; Kalyango Shafik, Dennis Kiyingi, Nassala Brian and Nviiri Sos Peter.
At the close of February, Makerere University Senate blocked Omollo Jinah Noah, Nassala Brian, Luwalwa Frank, Kiyingi Dennis, Kalyango Shafik, Nviiri Sos Peta and Sekidde Nicholas, from joining the guild race.
The commission’s general secretary, Wankandya Simon Peter, said the seven students had not met the requirements for standing for the post which include serving member of the guild executive for at least two semesters consecutively.
Campaigns kicked off on Monday February 29, and will end on March 10 with a final rally at the Freedom Square.
Voting will take place on March 11.
The 12-candidate race includes; Luyinda Fred (Go Forward), Ainomugisha Dick Rogers (FDC), Ssemboga Roy (UYD), Ssenyonga Simon (Independent), Bainomugisha Abel Mandela Nkunda (NRM), Nsubuga Umar (independent), Biddemu Bazil Mwota (Independent) and Kasozi Ismail (Independent).
Makerere University electoral commission spokesperson, Ian Ndamwesigwa, says the four who have been cleared appealed to the Senate.
