One person has been confirmed dead in an attack staged by gunmen from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Authorities identified the deceased as Wathum Mundu, a 30 year-old fisherman on Lak Albert and resident of Panyimur Sub-county in Nebbi district.
According to Mundu’s colleagues who survived narrowly, they were arrested by the three plain clothed gunmen as they were casting their nets in Lake Albert, forced to lie on the ground facedown before he was shot for no clear reasons.
This is not the first time gunmen from Congo are reported killing Ugandans.
A week ago, four police officers from Uganda were shot and three killed in an attack staged by DR Congo army officers.
The survivor was arrested and detained in Congo for several days.
He was handed over to Uganda after minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem threatened Uganda would retaliate if similar attacks happened again on Ugandan civilians.
Bodies of the three killed enforcement officers were also handed over to Uganda and later to their relatives for burial.
