The Commissioner of Rumbek North, Abraham Maloth Marier, was killed in an ambush laid by Nuer civilians on Friday, according to Lakes State government officials.
The attackers were chasing after cattle raiders.
Agaar youth from Pakom, Luac and Rek of Tonj had gone to loot the Nuer in Mayendit County.
They were stopped by the SPLA but refused and went ahead to raid the Nuer civilians.
The Commissioner who had hosted the Commissioners of Mayendit and Panyijiar County while fighting was taking place in their counties was on his way back home after had escorted the two Commissioners to the border as they returned home.
However, the Commissioner of Panyijiar had to return back with him because there was still fight in his county.
The convoy fell into ambush and Commissioner Maloth was killed.
Mrs. Elizabeth Poth Dumic, the border advisor of Lakes and Unity States governments is safe and in Maperdit, unlike what was initially reported by NC.
The National Courier understands the youth have returned to Mayendit and Panyijiar.

In a separate incident, two soldiers from SPLA Logistics Corps on their way to Rumbek were killed and one seriously wounded at the close of the week by unknown gunmen while they had parked their truck at a junction for an overnight stopover.
One of the deceased has been named as Garang Dhieu Dut from Twic East County.
The Commissioner of Mundri west, Hassan Bhakit and the County Executive Director, John Keliopa escorted by the police went to the scene of the killings at 0900 Friday morning.
However, they were also ambushed and the Executive Director, was shot dead by the assailants.
The bodies of the deceased soldiers and the Executive Director have been brought back to town.
Angry soldiers started shooting into the air upon hearing the news of the death of their colleagues spreading the panic in town.
General Bol Akook has been sent with a security taskforce to ensure security and investigate the deaths of the soldiers.
Commissioner of Duk country fired
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Duk County, Jacob Akech Deng who was appointed together with Bor’s County Commissioner, Isaac Mamer Ruk, in 2014 was fired on Thursday through a decree.
Reasons for his dismissal were not made public. He was removed in accordance to article 99 (2) [a] of a transitional constitution of Jonglei state, 2011.
“I John Kong Nyuon, the Caretaker Governor of Jonglei state do hereby decree the relieve of Hon. Jacob Akech Deng from his position as a Commissioner of Duk County in Jonglei state Government as from 21st of May 2015,” read the decree.
Akech replaced the former long serving Commissioner, Elijah Mochnom Wuor who was fired late last year.
