The Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kapchorwa has today remanded Athletics Coach Peter Wemali till April 30th.
Wemali who was arrested in Kampala on Wednesday for alleged defilement and rape of female athletes was refused to enter plead.
The same Coach was last year accused of sexually harassing female athletes.
Commonwealth Games 5,000m gold medalist Moses Ndiema Kipsiro raised the issue last year asking the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) to ban the Coach.
Fred Enanga, the Police confirmed that Wemali had been arrested and transferred to Kapchorwa where the alleged defilement and rape on three girls was reportedly carried out last year.
The three girls who are athletics with the Police team which Wemali handles testified last week in Kapchorwa reported cases that their coach had defiled them.
Sipi Region Regional Police Commander (RPC) James Ruhweza ordered Wemali’s arrest after medical examinations on three under-age national runners who accused the coach of sexually assaulting them.
The runners who are attached to Police Athletics Camp in Kapchorwa, are aged 15, 16 and 17 respectively.
Last month Kipsiro also pulled out of the national team for the World Cross Country Championship in China claiming Wemali sent him a death threatening message.
But Police is still investigating the matter.
