Pastor Joseph Elton Mabirizi has declared he will be seeking to be elected President of Uganda in the 2016 general elections.
Mabirizi, 40, is a pastor at Glory of Christ Church in Kasubi, an Electrical Engineer and a former employee of Uganda Electricity Board (UEB).
He also owns the Ambassadors of Christ Church in Namungona.
He made the announcement Thursday morning at Hotel Sojovalo, in Rubaga.
Mabirizi, standing as an independent, says he is in the process of registering a political party.
The party’s logo is a purple aeroplane.
Mabirizi says that his candidature is meant to rescue the country which has suffered 50 years of mismanagement and collapse of institutions.
Mabirizi says “Uganda is a rich country with only one single problem and that problem is corruption.”
Mabirizi is a son to the late Joseph Maale, a mechanic from Busega and Alice Mary Nabulya a seamstress from Zzana.
He attended Katwe Primary School, Old Kampala and St. John’s School Mityana for his secondary education.
A graduate from the Mengo Technical Institute in Electrical Engineering with a diploma, Mabirizi says its time to serve his country without fear or favour.
He has already written to the electoral commission notifying them of his intentions and seeking clearance to start countrywide nominations.
