The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Zhao Yali, has paid a courtesy call to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
Ambassador Yali, on Thursday, 26th May 2016 relayed his congratulatory message to Kadaga upon her re-election as Speaker for the 10th Parliament.
He also conveyed a congratulatory message from the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Zhang Dejiang.
“I am glad to say that we have a very close working relationship between the legislative bodies of China and Uganda,” Yali said.
He related this to the fact that a number of legislators had been visiting China in different capacities over the past few years.
Yali pledged the support on behalf of the Government of China to the existing relationship between China and Uganda and their National Assemblies.
In response, Kadaga acknowledged the friendly gesture and the support rendered to Uganda by the National People’s Congress of China.
“I remember that when the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China visited, he gave us over a 100 computers to support the work of Parliament,” she said.
Kadaga added that an association of the Parliament of Uganda and the National People’s Congress of China was formed to further support relations between the two.
Ambassador Yali extended an invitation to the Members of Parliament of Uganda to visit the National People’s Congress of China to which Kadaga promised to organise later this year.
