A fracas has broken out at Mandela national stadium, Namboole between FDC politician, Kizza Besigye’s supporters and Uganda police.
Besigye’s supporters moved very early Wednesday morning and decorated the stadium with banners showing support for their candidate ahead of today’s delegates conference.
We are told some delegates complained to police which is at the venue to provide security seeking the removal of the banners.
A fracas then broke out as as pro-Besigye delegates fought off delegates backed by police while trying to pull down his banners.
It took the intervention of FDC Secretary General, Nandala Mafabi, to calm the crowds.
He has allowed posters to be displayed.
Police then moved against vendors who had come to eke a living by selling foodstuffs to the delegates, pushing them out.
FDC yesterday invited President Yoweri Museveni to their delegates conference saying he had democracy lessons to learn from them.
Kyadondo East MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, also FDC party Spokesperson, told press that they invited all other parties’ chairpersons and secretary generals especially NRM because “we think NRM stands to gain more so that next time they don’t have to box each other picking a sole candidate.”
Today, delegates will elect party flag bearer between Mugisha Muntu and Kizza Besigye.
