Uganda’s Special Envoy, Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, has today met the Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to popularise the bid for former Uganda vice president, Dr Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe for the chairperson of African Union Commission.
According to Hon. Ogwal who delivered a message from Uganda on Dr. Speciosa Wandira-Kazibwe candidature, President Afwerki said, “support to Eastern Africa’s candidate is an obligation, a commitment to moving Africa forward”.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Communications for Uganda’s AU Chairperson bid, Ms Sarah Kagingo, Ogwal also met the Eritrean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Osman Saleh at a countryside office outside Asmara.
On Wednesday, another Special Envoy Daudi Migereko met with the Prime Minister of Lesotho and delivered a message from President Museveni.
On the same day, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda and leader of opposition in parliament Winnie Kiiza visited Cameroon for the same purpose.
Cameroonian Speaker Lifaka received them.
Other Ugandan special envoys continue to spread out across the continent to canvass support for the Eastern African candidate for the Chairperson of the African Union Commission [AUC].
The envoys include; Rt. Hon. Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the Minister of International Relations Hon. Okello Henry Oryem, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, Opposition Commissioner to Parliament, Hon Cecilia Ogwal Atim, Former Minister of Gender Hon. Syda Bbumba, Hon. James Baba, Hon Fred. Omach, Hon Victoria Sekitoleko and Hon. Daudi Migereko.
According to Kagingo, the candidate is now in Gabon and will continue to Cote D’Ivore to solicit for more support.
