Uganda Cranes has majestically marched to the semi-finals of the CECAFA 2015 Senior challenge cup after overcoming guest nation, Malawi 2-0 at the national stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Uganda’s team captain, Farouk Miya and Ceaser Okhuti each scored a goal in either half to seal victory.
Miya scored in the 6th minute of the game and Okhuti’s goal came in the 48th minute.
This is Uganda’s third victory in the tournament following the 4-0 victory over Zanzibar and 1-0 win against Burundi.
Kenya had earlier beaten Uganda 2-0 in the group B opener.
In the other quarter final played on Monday, hosts Ethiopia beat Tanzania 5-4 on penalties after a 1 all draw in normal.
The two games of the quarter-finals will come on Tuesday.
South Sudan will play Sudan in the ‘Sudan affair’ and Bobby Williamson’s Kenya Harambee Stars takes on Johnny Mckinstry’s coached Rwanda Amavubi stars.
Uganda will play Ethiopia in the semi-finals on Thursday, 3rd December 2015.
Uganda has won the CECAFA Senior challenge cup aa record 13 times, the best number of titles any country has taken tournament, which has been played since 1924 as athe Gossage cup.
