The coordinator of “Save Carol Campaign” Muhereza Kyamutetera says the family is considering flying her to Nairobi Kenya for treatment.
Carol Atuhirwe who has two cancers was initially supposed to receive treatment from University Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio USA.
This came after Carol had a conversation with Dr. Chad Zender, one of the visiting cancer specialists from the Cleveland Ohio, in October last year.
Zender gave her an estimate of $80,000 (Shs270,000,000) for treating her.
Through the “Save Carol campaign”, Ugandans raised Shs324,603,399 for her treatment.
However, the medical board at Mulago was advised by specialists from US that Carol was in no condition to travel that far.
The doctors from the US, recommended a fresh drug that would have to be purchased from the US- to be administered either here or in Nairobi.
The ministry of Health in a statement on Tuesday said she would be cared for at Mulago cancer institute until another alternative referral is established.
Kyamutetera says Carol’s mother Mrs Agrace Mugizi has been engaging the cancer institute for other alternatives.
“Following another meeting with cancer institute- it has been agreed that Carol’s case be referred to Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi for further attention.”
He added: “The family is still waiting for the referral papers and once ready, Carol should be flown to Nairobi for further attention.”
