King Rwigi IV Rutakirwa Ivan Bwebale of Busongora Kingdom is dead.
Bwebale died on Tuesday evening at Kadic Hospital in Kampala a few hours after his admission.
Daniel Bazira Kasagama, the Basongora Kingdom Community Rights and Constitutional Affairs Minister says Bwebale was pronounced dead at 9:30pm.
According to Kasagama, the 70-year-old King was referred to Kadic Hospital from Nsambya Hospital where he had spent three weeks on treatment for undisclosed ailment.
Kasagama explains that the King’s condition was not worrying during admission but it deteriorated on Tuesday afternoon prompting the referral.
By the time of filing this story, Bwebale’s body was lying in the mortuary at Kadic Hospital.
Boaz Kafuda, the Busongora South Member of Parliament says they will move the body from Kadic Hospital at around 10am this morning and to the King’s palace in Muhokya trading center, 5kms from Kasese town along the Kasese-Mbarara highway.
He says family members; relatives and Kingdom officials are yet to decide on the funeral arrangements.
Dan Katongole, a loyalist of Busongora Kingdom at Kahendero landing site in Muhokya sub-county says the King’s passing is unfortunate as he was still working hard to ensure government recognizes the Busongora Cultural Heritage.
Ivan Bwebale was crowned King at his home in Muhokya on Sunday July 1, 2012.
However, Charles Wesley Mumbere, the Rwenzururu Kingdom through his former spokesperson David Bradford Nguru declared the Busongora Kingdom “Null and Void”.
On July 11, 2012, a group of Rwenzururu Youth locally known as “Esyomango” raided Muhokya Palace and took away the Busongora Royal drum and flag prompting Bwabale to report a case of theft at Kasese Central Police Station.
The items have never been returned.
