Apollo Bwebale the Nakasongola Resident District Commissioner has been crowned King of the Basongora amid tight security.
Bwebale whose kingship names is Kyomya IV was crowned by his maternal uncle Yasamu Ndahura at Muhokya trading center in Kasese district.
He replaces his father Ivan Bwebale who passed away on April 28.
Addressing his subjects, Bwebale said he wants to cooperate with other Kingdoms in the Rwenzori region in order to cause a cultural cohesion.
The Busongora Cultural leader said that he will soon pay a visit to Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma to seek for cooperation between the two cultural institutions hoping to end the conflicts.
Amid praising slogans from his subjects, Bwebale who insists he will remain working as RDC said that his cultural institution is constitutional adding that whoever is not happy with his enthronement should seek legal redress in the courts of law.
He also said when a new cabinet is announced soon, all the tribes in Kasese including the Bakonzo will have a ministerial post as a sign of cohesion.
The strongly speaking cultural leader said police and the Uganda Peoples Defense forces will carry the blame if any of the members of the Busongora Royal family is attacked when he is away on government duties.
Prime Minister Samuel Ntungwa said that there are plans to invite President Yoweri Museveni to recognize the cultural institution officially.
Ntungwa said that the challenge ahead of possible recognition is to construct a palace that dignifies the cultural institution.
The deceased cultural leader Ivan Bwebale Rutakirwa Rwigi IV had previously broken the ground for the construction of the palace near Hima town council.
The new king ordered his late father’s 35 member cabinet to remain serving until he appoints his own of only 18 ministries.
Other cultural institutions, local and central government were not represented at the one and half hours coronation event.
Phillip Isejjemba a Musongora from Busonga commended the new king on his plan to help resolve the conflicts in the Rwenzori region.
