Former Tanzania President, His Excellency Benjamin Mkapa, who is also mediator in the Burundi peace process, called on President Yoweri Museveni Wednesday at State House, Entebbe.
He briefed Museveni on progress of talks so far.
“I am optimistic the situation in Burundi will normalize soon,” Museveni said after the meeting.
The government of President Pierre Nkurunziza insists it will not sit at the table with those opposition leaders it accuses of organising protests and plotting the failed coup last year.
The Inter-Burundi dialogue remains a top priority for the East African Community, Mkapa noted while hosting EALA Speaker, Rt. Hon. Daniel F. Kidega who had paid a courtesy call on him in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania recently.
Mkapa will soon meet the Chair of the Summit of EAC Heads of State, H.E. Dr John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.
