Burundi police attacks funeral convoy, scores killed

Police in Burundi attacked a funeral convoy and shot randomly killing an unknown number of people.

The bus carrying youth from Ngagara and Cibitoke regions came under attack leaving many dead.

Burundi Media reports that so far 16 people are said to have died in the attack.

The police was reinforced by ruthless ruling party militia, Imbonerakure.

According to SOS Media Burundi, the attack occurred on Saturday morning at Buringa, Gihanga commune near Bujumbura airport and Mpanda cemetery.

Several people were returning from a funeral when they were attacked by police officers from the riot squad.

“We were coming back home, we had just to attend a funeral, I was on my bike and I noticed officers from the riot squad in trenches, one of them was in civil I myself saw Desire Uwamahoro give the order to fire. And himself with other police opened fire on a Coaster and two Probox type of cars. Two people were killed on the spot,” a survivor told SOS Media.

The wounded were taken to a health center in Buringa where the others who survived the bullets were reportedly arrested.

The victims were burying a Young named Djibril killed this week in gunfire and explosions that hit Cibitoke (north of the capital Bujumbura).
